A concrete roof has a lot of advantages from being durable to surviving adverse weather conditions. This does not, however, mean that any concrete roof will always be durable. It is therefore essential to ensure that you use the right proportions of construction materials in case you want to put up a concrete roof. You also need to ensure that the weight of the concrete is supported. Concrete roofing requires a lot of planning and herein is a step by step guide on how to construct the perfect flat concrete roof.

Safety and tools

Even before starting the construction process, it is crucial for one to ensure that he or she has the right safety materials according to some roofing companies. Failure to have the right safety materials may not only lead to an injury during the construction process but can also lead to liability. Once you are certain that you have the right safety guards which are work helmets and work boots.
You can then confirm that you have all the other materials that you will need during the construction process. The tools will include steel joists, cement, reinforcing bars, W1.7 wire, sand, and concrete slabs. You will therefore first need to decide the size of concrete blocks to use.

After the selection of a particular size of concrete blocks, you will need to place the steel joists which should rest on a beam for support. The steel joists should also be proportional to the size of your concrete blocks. The joists are basically to provide a foundation for the concrete blocks.

Lay the concrete slabs

After making sure that your steel joists are laid, you need to place the concrete slabs one at a time and according to the size that you made from the steel joists.

Grooves and reinforcing bars

The next process after laying your concrete slabs is to trace the grooves, which are usually evident then place the W1.7 wire or even your preferred wire on the grooves then carefully bend then at the end of each slab. The spaces left between the slabs and the joists should have reinforcing bars inserted in them.

Preparing and pouring the grout

Once you are certain that your slabs are firm and have been held in position, you then need to prepare your grout. In preparing the grout, you will need to mix sand, cement, and water and once you have thoroughly mixed it, you can then proceed to pour it on top of the slabs gently. As you pour the grout, wait for the concrete to absorb it then spread it using a squeegee slowly. Once the top has been gotten moisture, you can proceed to add more grout, wait for it to dry as you pour water to prevent it from cracking.

Bottom line

One can make his or her concrete roof, but in cases where you are not certain, especially with the measurements, you can seek professional assistance. Having the right measurements will ensure that your concrete roof is always held in shape and that it lasts a long period.
